We are building the bridge Africa’s free trade area is still missing
The AfCFTA removed tariffs on paper. Language, trust and information never crossed the border. VeriAfrica uses AI to find every opportunity, translate it for every African business, and a human network to make sure the people on the other side are real.
Born on both sides of the invisible border
“I watched viable projects in Libreville stay invisible to capable firms in Johannesburg, and the reverse, simply because they worked in different languages.”Eliezer Moukouboungou Gomat, founder
VeriAfrica began with a pattern its founder kept seeing. Working as a town planner and development consultant between Francophone and Anglophone Africa, Eliezer Moukouboungou Gomat saw African businesses trade with Paris, Dubai and Guangzhou long before they traded with each other. The reason was rarely roads or tariffs. It was that a tender published in French in Libreville never reached the contractor in Johannesburg who could deliver it, and a buyer in Nairobi never heard of the supplier in Douala.
He called it the invisible border, and wrote a book about it: The Invisible Border: Why Africans Trade With Everyone but Each Other, and the AI Revolution That Ends It. The research pointed to three failures on every cross-language deal: discovery (opportunities published in one language only), trust (no way to verify an unknown counterpart) and execution (no multilingual bridge to close).
Then large language models changed the economics of the first problem. Reading every tender portal, gazette and donor site on the continent, in every language, every day, was no longer a job for an army of analysts. It was a job for AI agents. VeriAfrica Ltd was registered in Kigali in 2026 to build them, with humans in charge of the part machines cannot do: trust.
Today the platform is live in open beta at app.veriafrica.com, tracking nearly 2,000 opportunities from 51 African countries in six languages, for businesses and for individuals, ahead of its public launch in January 2027.

Eliezer Moukouboungou Gomat
Urban planner by training. Development consultant by practice. Developer by love.
Born in Gabon and built professionally in South Africa, Eliezer is a SACPLAN-registered town planner with more than eight years of practice across Anglophone and Francophone Africa, and the founder of the Association des Urbanistes du Gabon. His planning and development consulting work, between Libreville, Johannesburg and Kigali, is where he saw the invisible border first-hand.
Code is the part of the story people do not expect. Eliezer designs and builds VeriAfrica’s product himself, from the AI agents that read tender portals to the multilingual platform members use every day, working with the Kigali-based engineering team. That mix, a planner’s sense of how public money is spent, a consultant’s sense of how deals close, and a developer’s ability to ship, is what VeriAfrica is made of.
He is the author of The Invisible Border (2026), works in French and English, and lives between Kigali, Libreville and Johannesburg.
The Invisible Border
Why Africans Trade With Everyone but Each Other, and the AI Revolution That Ends It.
VeriAfrica started as a book. Eliezer wrote it to explain why a firm in Libreville and a firm in Johannesburg can spend a decade without ever meeting, and how AI can finally carry an opportunity across the language line. The platform is that argument, built.
